Karnataka’s Financial Crisis Deepens Under Congress Rule: BJP’s Vijayendra Raises Alarm

Bengaluru: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president B.Y. Vijayendra has issued a stark warning regarding Karnataka’s financial health, alleging that the Congress-led government is steering the state towards bankruptcy.

In an open letter addressed to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah ahead of the upcoming budget session on March 7, Vijayendra highlighted several financial concerns. He claimed that the state’s transport department is burdened with an outstanding debt of ₹7,000 crore, while various government departments collectively owe ₹6,000 crore in unpaid electricity bills. “The government is struggling to pay salaries on time. Power supply companies are unable to clear their dues. Karnataka is heading towards a severe financial crisis,” Vijayendra stated.

He further accused the government of diverting ₹25,426 crore earmarked for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes welfare to other projects, thereby neglecting marginalized communities. Vijayendra also criticized the recent hikes in fuel prices, property registration fees, and public transportation fares, suggesting these measures are attempts to offset the financial strain caused by the government’s populist schemes.

The BJP leader demanded that the Chief Minister release a comprehensive white paper detailing the state’s financial status. “The people of Karnataka deserve transparency. The government must present a clear picture of our financial situation before the budget is tabled,” he asserted.

Vijayendra’s remarks come at a time when the state government is under scrutiny for its fiscal policies and financial management. The Congress party has yet to respond to these allegations.
