South Karnataka including Bengaluru to see excess rain, North Karnataka to witness extreme heat

Bangalore : According to the Indian Meterological Department (IMD), Karnataka is set to experience extreme heat and intense rainfall during March-May. Northern districts of Karnataka are expected to endure severe heatwave circumstances for 2-4 days . Bangalore is likely to receive above-normal pre-monsoon showers .

The IMD predicts extreme weather conditions across the states , with coastal Karnataka expected to receive 50-60 percent excess summer showers . Bengaluru and other interior districts , could see 30-40 percent above- normal per-monsoon showers. Due to these rains, the temperatures in south interior Karnataka are expected to remain relatively normal .

However, northeastern Karnataka will experience intense heat , with temperatures touching up to 50 degree Celsius throughout March.
Meteorologists attributed the extreme heat to the weakening of the La Niña conditions, which are progressing towards a neutral phase.
Considering the heatwave conditions, the state health and family welfare department has advised people to stay hydrated, wear fully covered clothing, and limit outdoor activities during peakhours.
