Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy To Visit Belagavi  to Address Recent Bus Conductor Assault

Belagavi : Karnataka Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy will visit Belagavi today to address the recent assault on a North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) bus conductor. The incident, which occurred on February 22, involved an attack on the conductor over a language dispute.

During his visit, Minister Reddy is expected to condemn the act of vandalism and emphasize the importance of linguistic harmony in the region. He has previously stated that while Marathi is the mother tongue for many in Belagavi, learning Kannada is essential as it is the administrative language of Karnataka. He urges political leaders to take a non-partisan stand on issues concerning land, water, and language, condemning such incidents without bias.

The minister is also likely to highlight the government’s commitment to improving transportation infrastructure in Belagavi. Plans are underway for the construction of a new city bus stand, expected to be completed by December 2025 at a cost of ₹49 crore. Additionally, the NWKRTC has received approval to purchase 4,000 new buses, with a significant number allocated to the Belagavi division. These buses will be equipped with modern amenities, including CCTV cameras and electronic vehicle stability control systems, to enhance passenger safety and comfort.

Minister Reddy’s visit underscores the government’s dedication to ensuring the safety of its transport employees and passengers, as well as its focus on developing infrastructure to support the region’s growth.
